Garry Parsons Fine drawings in charcoal & print
My drawings are inspired by the natural world, with a focus on the poetic dignity of our environment and the nature within it. Through birds, trees and landscape, I focus on the space where memory, emotion and nature come together.
I am continually fascinated by the fragility and resilience of birds, especially at a time when their very existence is challenged. I hope to capture some of their uniqueness and individualism and convey something of their strength and determined nature as well as highlighting the plight that our wildlife currently faces.
New to the site are a series of drawings of trees and small 'Aperture' drawings.
Inspired by drawing mature Beech, Oak and Sequoia trees 'en plain air' in Sheldwhich and Goodnesstone Park in Kent this summer, I received an invitation to exhibit work based on personal associations with trees.
My relationship with nature began early and as a youngster I recall being given 'cigarette cards' collected by relatives which featured birds and trees. These tiny windows into nature are reflected in the recent drawings and made within the dimensions of the cigarette cards, the smallest "Aperture" drawings being actual size and the largest being 1 metre tall, Micro and Macro..
These new pieces will be shown at the East Kent Artists Open House show this October along with other new bird drawings and a further series of 'Aperture' drawings.
Details of the show are on the Exhibitions page, I hope you can join me!

Charcoal.
Charcoal is a wonderfully fluid and expressive medium. Made from twigs or willow heated at a high temperature, charcoal produces immediate marks that can be moulded and moved with a finger, brush or a rubber. Using charcoal is as fascinating as the birds themselves, its ability to produce an endless diversity of marks and tone.

Each drawing is made on fine quality papers including Saunders 425gms hot pressed watercolour paper.
Saunders Waterford paper is a very high quality watercolour paper that can be used for painting, pencil, ink, charcoal and calligraphy. It is made with 100% cotton fibre and is acid free.
The rough edge of the paper is a result of the paper making process.
Details and dimensions of each drawing can be found in the galleries.
The drawings are sold as finished framed artworks.
The framing is meticulously finished by an experienced and exacting framer in Kent whom I trust implicitly.
The bird drawings are sold framed in Black Ash and are ‘float framed’ on either a near white or a black mount.
The glass is non reflective.
The framed size for the large bird drawings is 870mm x 670 mm.
The framed size for the smaller bird drawings is 315mm x 335mm.
Dimensions and framing details of the trees, landscapes and others can be found in the gallery section.
All the drawings are original and signed by the artist.
Details of all the work available to buy can found in the gallery, along with dimensions, frame details and prices.
